I believe in the purity, the simplicity of stripping yourself of everything you are, just to attain, or don the role of someone else... it takes a lot to do that, and STILL retain a bit of your own individuality. thats the mark of a great actor.

The Struggle

Acting, Struggle.. these words seem to hand-in-mouth.

Every actor has found some sort of obstacle in his path to overwhelming success, to fame, to fortune, to mastery of his craft, to enormous amount of financial security, to whatever else he might have taken up this profession.

But its funny how some struggles, were never meant to be, and don't seem hard enough for them to be labelled as struggles in the first place.

My first year at college, * seems a long time back, 2 years, * and yet, seems like just yesterday.. was when I was very excited, since I was going to be a part of Xavier's College' annual theatre event, ITHAKA, brought out by the English department. Now I knew that since its not my department, some amount of resentment I must b willing to take, but the fact is, out of the 50 odd students who showed up for the FIRST DAY , only 13 people stayed on, after the break, to actually make ithaka happen, ME INCLUDED.

For the next two weeks or so, I was completely entranced by the B.A. Lit. style of working in plays in college.. not like I complained or anything. But somehow, the script wasnt' taking off, something or the other happening wrong here n there... but I started talkin to everyone, and got off well enough with the group.

And, then, after around two weeks.. I get no calls from the director.. she's like: yea we have a holiday tomorrow, take the day off, chill, This is happening for three days straight.
The Fourth day i call her up, she's not picking up my calls
then i called up a friend of mine from the group, who told me, easily that the director has silently and subtly fired you from the production.
BUT THE BEST PART OF THIS IS: NO ONE IN THE GROUP KNEW WHY.

Strange na, they just push me out of it. they hv no reason for it whatsoever. and they don't even have the guts to face me and tell me that boss, you're out of the play? I mean, how much do you need to do something as simple as that? Look me in the eye and tell me that u dont need me, I'll go away.!! but No, i hv to find out from a third party... as always...

The struggle? The struggle is to understand the human psyche.. the understand what makes people tick, and what makes them click.. to know what the idiosyncracies of each individual person in your knowledge of the world, are, and how you can use them to develop the character of that whom you're playing on stage..
That is the STRUGGLE< THE ACTUAL STRUGGLE OF THE ACTOR.

money problems dealt with in further topics. * i need to be paid to write this stuf in the first place !

I know how unprofessional these people can get! Why dont you people just say "Dude, we don't want you". Better than all the anticipation that goes with the uncertainty of getting in.
